The Demänovský cave system is the longest in Slovakia with a length of over 43 kilometres. It was formed over millions of years by the underground river Demänovka. Two of the most important caves are open to the public today, each offering a completely different but equally unforgettable experience:

Demänovská Cave of Freedom: It has long been one of the most visited caves in Slovakia. It will amaze you with its incredibly rich and colourful stalactite decorations, mysterious underground river and clear emerald lakes.

Demänovská Ice Cave: It is located just a short distance down in the valley. It is one of the oldest known caves in Europe and its lower parts are decorated all year round with breathtaking ice formations and columns.

How far are the caves from the hotel?

🚗 By car: the drive down the valley is very easy and quick. There are spacious paid parking lots under both caves. From the parking lot, a short, moderately strenuous walk along a scenic forest trail (the climb takes about 15 to 20 minutes) awaits you to the actual cave entrance.

🚌 By bus. The bus stops are very close to the hotel and the bus will drop you off directly at the parking lots of both caves (Demänovská dolina, Jaskyňa slobody or Ľadová jaskyňa stops).

🚲 By bike: for more active guests, the descent from Jasná to the caves is a pleasant refreshment and an excellent tip for a bike trip. You can safely lock your bike right at the start of the ascent trails.
